The European Microfinance Award was launched in October 2005 by the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs – Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, to support innovative thinking in the microfinance sector.
Awarded for the first time in 2006, it is jointly organised by the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP) and the Inclusive Finance Network Luxembourg (InFiNe.lu).
The prize of €100,000 (+ 2 x €10,000) will be presented on 21st November 2019 during a ceremony held at the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg. This ceremony, followed by a cocktail party, gathers some 400 guests and attendees from the South and the North including high level public and political figures. Note that the ceremony is on invitation-only.
The objective of the European Microfinance Award 2019 “Strengthening Resilience to Climate Change” is to recognise organisations active in the financial inclusion sector that provide financial and non-financial products and services aimed at strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities to the effects of climate change.
