The 2019 Microfinance Barometer

The 2019 Microfinance Barometer

InFiNe.lu participated in Convergences World Forum where  the Microfinance Barometer is traditionally launched.

The 10th edition of the Barometer analyses the key figures of the evolution of the financial inclusion sector and its main trends.

The number of borrowers (139.9 million in 2018) and the portfolio size (US D124 B in 2018) have both increased. Two constant remain regarding the type of borrowers: women make up the majority of borrowers (80%) and 65% are rural borrowers.

The digital revolution is still ongoing and is clearly the key to transforming the sector. It facilitates customer access, reduces the costs of products and services, creates new products and attracts new customers. In 2017, 60% of MFIs were experimenting in some ways with digital channels. 2018 has seen services multiplied by 9 by digital.
