On March 21st and 22nd, the ALFI European Asset Management Conference was organised in Luxembourg. Michel Maquil, President of InFiNe.lu, attended it and followed the presentation “What’s on the mind of the investors? Investment Outcomes: Not what you expect” by Courtney Waterman, Head of Marketing at Schroders. During her presentation, Courtney Waterman referred to the “Schroders Global Investor Study 2016. What investors think about responsible investing”.

The Schroders Global Investor Study gathers the views of 20 000 investors in 28 countries. The study points out that “responsible or sustainable investment has become a focus for the investment industry with the value of sustainable investments growing from $13 trillion to $21 trillion within two years.”

The main findings of the study was, inter alia, that there is a willingness to invest for longer in ESG (environmental, social and governance) issues. However, the study shows the differences in attitude between continent and countries : “investors in Asia and the Americas are most likely to base investment decisions on ESG factors; Europeans are least inclined.”
