“Enabling Women Entrepreneurs in Africa”

The 40th Midi de la microfinance et de l’inclusion financière will be dedicated to the female entrepreneurs in Africa with the presence of Her Royal Highness The Grand Duchess of Luxembourg and Mr Romain Schneider, Minister of Development and Humanitarian Affairs.

In Lomé as in Abidjan and Kigali, in an Africa ever more dominated by men, the women’s triple entrepreneurial task is threefold: they are domestic entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs of their own future, and finally business entrepreneurs in their society. In order to succeed, women must put in even more work as they overcome conservative skepticism as well as the barriers faced by all business owners. Supporting female entrepreneurship remains a central issue. In this dynamic context where entrepreneurship is becoming more common and where women want to change their towns, their countries and their continent, what role can be played by NGOs, MFIs, banks and public institutions?

The 40th Midi aims to provide insight into possible answers to this question on micro, meso and macro levels. What concrete solutions do these different actors propose, especially regarding access to financial services, an issue that is still at the core of entrepreneurship. Access to capital remains an issue of vital importance, and each organization has its own solutions, but this Midi of Microfinance also looks closely at the issue of female empowerment.

Confirmed speakers are:

  • Ms. Félicité Kambou: Director of the Agricultural Service Cooperative Coobsa (COPSA-C) in Burkina Faso.
  • Ms. Josée Mukandinda: Operations Manager and director of the Youthstart program of the microfinance institution UFC (Umutanguha Finance Company) in Rwanda.
  • Ms. Marèma Bao: Deputy director of Cofina (African Financial Company).

The conference will be held in French. Registration is compulsory. For reasons of protocol, participants are kindly requested to take their seat at 11:45 am prior to the arrival of Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.
