Member description

The European Investment Fund (EIF) is part of the European Investment Bank group. Its central mission is to support Europe’s micro, small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) by helping them to access finance. EIF fosters EU objectives in support of innovation, research and development, entrepreneurship, growth, and employment.

EIF designs and develops venture and growth capital, guarantees and microfinance instruments which specifically target the SME market segment. EIF also disposes of a Research and Market Analysis team who EIF’s strategic decision-making, product development and mandate management processes through applied research and market analyses.

EIF has been involved in the European microfinance sector since 2000, providing funding (equity and loans), guarantees and technical assistance to a broad range of financial intermediaries, from small non-bank financial institutions to well established microfinance banks to make microfinance a fully-fledged segment of the European financial sector.
