Breaking Barriers: How BANFONDESA Became the First MFI in the Dominican Republic to Issue a Sustainability Bond Listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange

InFiNe is pleased to announce a Knowledge Sharing Event on January 21, 2026, featuring our members, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), who will present the success story of their partner BANFONDESA, with contributions from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and the Dominican Republic Stock Exchange.

This session will highlight GGGI’s role in supporting the first Sustainability Bond issued by a microfinance institution in the Dominican Republic, DOP 500 million (approx. EUR 7 million) issuance led by BANFONDESA to expand microfinance, green lending, and MSME financing. The event will share key lessons on how technical assistance and catalytic partnerships can support financial institutions in aligning with international standards and delivering inclusive environmental and social impact.

The programme will feature a presentation on BANFONDESA’s sustainability bond journey, followed by an interactive Q&A session moderated by InFiNe.
