G20 Turkish Presidency : 2015 Priorities on Financial Inclusion

As of 1 December 2014, Turkey assumes the Presidency of the G20. Turkey has announced its priorities for 2015 financial inclusion. The key themes will be “inclusiveness, implementation and investment for growth”.

A specific focus will be given to the implementation by the GPFI (Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion) of the reviewed G20 Financial Inclusion Action Plan, as adopted during the Brisbane Summit. The Turkish Presidency will also pay particular attention in including Low Income Developing Countries perspective in “all relevant aspects of the G20 agenda.”

The Turkish Presidency will work particularly on the following items:

  • Youth and Financial Inclusion, such as promotion of youth entrepreneurship and financial literacy;
  • Access to finance by Small and Medium Sized Enterprises;
  • Increasing Private Sector’s Role in Financial Inclusion to explore, inter alia, public-private partnership;
  • Women’s Economic Empowerment through the identification of the “best practices to increase women entrepreneurship, financial education for women entrepreneurs and the promotion of policies to create new tools for women’s access to finance”;
  • Remittances and the reduction of the global average costs of sending remittances to 5% .

The Presidency will also continue the work on the production, collection and analysis of relevant data on financial inclusion and will ensure the coordination among G20 workstreams.
