Encouraging Effective & Inclusive Savings: Lessons and Best Practices from the European Microfinance Award 2020

This publication, available in English, French and Spanish, presents the innovations and success factors of the ten (10) semi-finalists of the European Microfinance Award (EMA) 2020 “Encouraging Effective & Inclusive Savings”, including the Award winner, Muktinath Bikas Bank Ltd. The 2020 EMA aimed to highlight the importance of savings in building resilience of low-income households.

The 10 selected initiatives are profiled in the publication in 3 categories:

  • Designing Products for People and Purpose
  • Enabling Savings through Delivery Innovation
  • Encouraging Clients to Save

The publication is made by e-MFP, co-organisers of the European Microfinance Award with Luxembourg’s Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs within the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and InFiNe.lu. The 10 semi-finalists are selected by an Award Selection Committee composed of e-MFP and InFiNe.lu members.

The European Microfinance Award recognises innovation and excellence in financial inclusion. The Award serves two parallel goals: rewarding excellence, and collecting and disseminating the most relevant practices for replication by others.
