The paper « Digital Infrastructure: Overcoming the digital divide in emerging economies » reviews the literature on the digital divide in emerging economies to explain “(i) how internet connectivity promotes social and economic inclusiveness, efficiency and innovation (ii) why the physical access to the internet alone is insufficient to capture the benefits of digital technology (iii) how to further connect the unconnected population.”
In addition, the paper formulates two types of policy recommendations: (i) general principles that the G20 should endorse to overcome disparities between emerging and advanced economies (ii) policy guidelines each nation should follow to foster inclusiveness.
