Friendship Luxembourg’s mission is to support the actions of Friendship in Bangladesh in favour of the poorest and most remote communities in the sectors of health, education and training, income generating activities, access to rights, climate change adaptation, emergency relief, humanitarian aid, disaster preparedness, etc.
Founded in 2006, Friendship Luxembourg was created to support Friendship Bangladesh and provide a support structure in terms of human resources, research & development and fundraising.
Friendship Luxembourg is the first of the Friendship International entities to be created. The aim of the association is to support Friendship’s work on behalf of the poorest populations by mobilising financial and other resources. Thanks to its framework agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Friendship Luxembourg is able to support actions in the fields of health, education and training, access to rights and human rights advocacy, income-generating activities as well as emergency aid, rehabilitation, disaster preparedness and climate adaptation.
Friendship Luxembourg’s support is not limited to financial assistance. Over the years, a multi-dimensional partnership has been developed, combining technical assistance, skills sponsorship, volunteering and exchanges of best practice with various Luxembourg companies and foundations. Today, Friendship Luxembourg has become much more than a simple tool for mobilising resources, but a real network of friendships and a laboratory for projects and partnerships that could inspire many others.
In the field of micro-finance, Friendship operates through its sister entity APDS (https://apds.ngo/). APDS is a microfinance institution based in Bangladesh and committed to poverty alleviation and empowerment by giving access to finance to poor but active people. APDS offers seasonal agricultural loans to the farmers, business loans to small traders and support to savings in unaddressed communities. Additionally, APDS offers different capacity-building services for the farmers in collaboration with Friendship.
