Sparkles.lu, a Luxembourg-based initiative to empower women entrepreneurs worldwide

InFiNe.lu team has met Maud Majerus, President and Founder, and Claude Decartes, Secretary of Sparkles.lu, a Luxembourg based non-profit organisation founded in May 2014.

The goal of Sparkles.lu is to help women to develop their business activities in parts of the world where access to finance is poor or inexistent. The setup of their businesses is a way to empower them and to improve their future. In fact, women entrepreneurs invest the profits from their businesses in ways that have a longer-lasting, more profound impact on the lives of their families and communities.

Sparkles.lu supports women by granting them microcredits for concrete projects via microfinance platforms and intermediaries.

Sparkles.lu team choose the projects to support according to the following 5 criteria:

• The geographic areas;
• The sector of activity;
• The project sustainability;
• The entrepreneurs ‘living conditions;
• The entrepreneurs ‘situation.

In 2015, Sparkles.lu funded 51 projects in 7 countries. Sparkles.lu is not subventionned. The association organises fundraising events and invests the money into women-owned businesses.
