Outcomes of the First Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion Meeting under the German G20 Presidency

The first Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion [1] Meeting under the German G20 Presidency was held in Wiesbaden (Germany) on 23-24 January 2017.

During the meeting, the work of the GPFI in 2017 was defined guided by the 3 priorities of the German G20 Presidency which are (i) building resilience, (ii) improving sustainability and (iii) assuming responsibility. The Financial Inclusion Action Plan was updated accordingly. In 2017, a special emphasis will be placed on the following priorities areas:

  • Review and Update of the Financial Inclusion Action Plan aligning it with the 2030 Agenda
  • Implementation of the high level principles for digital financial inclusion: opportunities and risks of digital financial inclusion
  • Implementation of the G20 action plan on SME financing
  • Financial inclusion of vulnerable groups: forcibly displaced persons.

Cross-cutting issues, such as gender, youth, poor people and rural areas, will be taken into account. And special attention will be given to remittances and financial literacy.

The German presidency is working together with the former China Presidency and the future Argentinian Presidency.

[1] The Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) is an inclusive platform for all G20 countries, interested non-G20 countries and relevant stakeholders to carry forward work on financial inclusion, including implementation of the G20 Financial Inclusion Action Plan.
